Darien Hewett Wins High School Scholarship

Darien Hewett, South Brunswick High School Class of 2012, was judged the winner of BCRW’s annual Scholarship Program.  She will receive a $500 award  which will be sent to the college she will be attending this Fall, Western Carolina University.  Darien is the daughter of Misty Houser and Darien D. Hewett of Oak Island, NC.  She is pictured here with Club President Kathy Lawler, June 5, 2012 at our monthly meeting.  During high school, Darien was a cheerleader all four years.  She is an active member of her church and community.  She has chosen to major in Engineering Technology.  Congratulations and Best Wishes, Darien!

Nominating Committee Sonja Conger, Joan Kinney, and Mary Ann McCarthy are serving as this year’s nominating committee.  The committee will present their report in September, an election will be held in October, and two new officers will be installed in December.  The current vice president’s and treasurer’s terms expire December 31st.

Literacy The Spanish-to-English dictionaries were delivered to the Latino Cultural Center in Supply in early May.

BSL Fun Day Saturday, May 12th, at Boiling Spring Lakes.  Mary Stilwell described the overall turnout as fair, while the children’s crowd was great.  Rosalie Russo and Kathy Lawler manned the Club’s vendor table.  We were able to raise some money by selling our merchandise.

Doo Wop Dance Saturday, February 11th, Southport Community Center. The dance was a success, a fun night for everyone, a good turnout of 50’s & 60’s music enthusiasts (about 80 people attended).  Mary Stilwell was our chairperson for the dance and worked with BCGOP member Mike Forte to spearhead the event.  Profits from the dance were split between BCRW & BCGOP.

Billie Shelton Recognized at Tribute to Women Dinner
